How to Fix CVE-2026-32689

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Phoenix dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

phoenix fixed: 1.7.22
Upgrade phoenix to 1.7.22
phoenix fixed: 1.8.6
Upgrade phoenix to 1.8.6
Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

inspect dependencies for phoenix

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your application is affected by CVE-2026-32689, inspect your project dependencies for Phoenix:

inspect dependencies for phoenix

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Phoenix in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than 1.7.22), your application is affected.

Note: Verify declared build manifests and deployed runtime container environments.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-770: Allocation of Resources Without Limits or Throttling, where the product allocates a reusable resource or group of resources on behalf of an actor without imposing any intended restrictions on the size or number of resources that can be allocated. In Phoenix, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

### Summary An unauthenticated denial-of-service vulnerability in Phoenix's long-poll transport allows a remote client to allocate a large amount of memory with a HTTP request. A handful of concurrent requests can be sufficient to let the node run out of memory. See also https://cna.erlef.org/cves/CVE-2026-32689.html. ### Details The unoptimised code path exists on the `application/x-ndjson` POST handling in the LongPoll transport. The endpoint requires only a session token, which any client can obtain by issuing a GET to the same URL with a matching `Origin` header, so exploitation is unauthenticated. ### Impact Anyone who runs a LiveView app with a public Longpoll socket or uses a `Phoenix.Socket` with longpoll option. Longpoll has been enabled for newly generated Phoenix projects since Phoenix 1.7.11.
