How to Fix CVE-2025-58067

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Google sign in dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

google_sign_in fixed: 1.3.1
Upgrade google_sign_in to 1.3.1
Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

inspect dependencies for google_sign_in

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your application is affected by CVE-2025-58067, inspect your project dependencies for Google sign in:

inspect dependencies for google_sign_in

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Google sign in in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than 1.3.1), your application is affected.

Note: Verify declared build manifests and deployed runtime container environments.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-601: URL Redirection to Untrusted Site ('Open Redirect'), where the web application accepts a user-controlled input that specifies a link to an external site, and uses that link in a redirect. In Google sign in, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

## Summary It is possible to redirect a user to another origin if the "proceed_to" value in the session store is set to a protocol-relative URL. ## Details The google_sign_in gem persists an optional URL for redirection after authentication. If this URL is set to a protocol-relative URL, it improperly passes the "same origin" check, and it's possible for the user to be redirected to another origin after authentication, possibly resulting in exposure of authentication information if this attack is chained with other attacks. Normally the value of this URL is only written and read by the library or the calling application. However, it may be possible to set this session value from a malicious site with a form submission. ## Impact Any Rails applications using the google_sign_in gem may be vulnerable, if this vector can be chained with another attack that is able to modify the OAuth2 request parameters. ## Workarounds No known workarounds. ## Credits This issue was responsibly reported by Hackerone user [muntrive](https://hackerone.com/muntrive?type=user).
