How to Fix GHSA-434v-x5qv-pmh6

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Libcrux ed25519 dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

libcrux-ed25519 fixed: 0.0.7
Upgrade libcrux-ed25519 to 0.0.7
Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

inspect dependencies for libcrux-ed25519

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your application is affected by GHSA-434v-x5qv-pmh6, inspect your project dependencies for Libcrux ed25519:

inspect dependencies for libcrux-ed25519

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Libcrux ed25519 in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than 0.0.7), your application is affected.

Note: Verify declared build manifests and deployed runtime container environments.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-392: Missing Report of Error Condition, where the product encounters an error but does not provide a status code or return value to indicate that an error has occurred. In Libcrux ed25519, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

The libcrux-ed25519 key generation samples Ed25519 secret keys from a provided CSPRNG in a loop for up to 100 attempts until a non-zero key is found. If a non-zero key could not be sampled within 100 attempts the key generation function would silently continue with an all-zero buffer as the secret key. ## Impact This bug only occurs in the event of a catastrophic failure of the CSPRNG, but would allow anyone to forge signatures under the resulting static signing key. ## Mitigation Instead of silently continuing with an all-zero signing key, starting from version `0.0.7` key generation will error in the case of 100 failed attempts at sampling a valid key.
