How to Fix CVE-2017-7725

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Concrete5/concrete5 dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

concrete5/concrete5 fixed: Latest secure release
Upgrade concrete5/concrete5 to Latest secure release
Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

inspect dependencies for concrete5/concrete5

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your application is affected by CVE-2017-7725, inspect your project dependencies for Concrete5/concrete5:

inspect dependencies for concrete5/concrete5

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Concrete5/concrete5 in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than the patched release), your application is affected.

Note: Verify declared build manifests and deployed runtime container environments.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-79: Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation ('Cross-site Scripting'), where the product does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes user-controllable input before it is placed in output that is used as a web page that is served to other users. In Concrete5/concrete5, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

concrete5 8.1.0 places incorrect trust in the HTTP Host header during caching, if the administrator did not define a "canonical" URL on installation of concrete5 using the "Advanced Options" settings. Remote attackers can make a GET request with any domain name in the Host header. This is stored and allows for arbitrary domains to be set for certain links displayed to subsequent visitors, potentially an XSS vector.
